Platinum Designer Bands

Platinum Wedding Bands

Platinum rings are without a doubt some of the most desirable wedding bands available on the market today. Platinum wedding bands offer a variety of characteristics that makes platinum the ideal material for making jewelry. Platinum wedding rings are pure, making them naturally hypoallergenic and perfect for those individuals with sensitive skin. Platinum rings are also naturally white, meaning that your ring will never need to be rhodium plated to maintain its brilliant white luster. This will save you the expensive maintenance cost that can be associated with white gold rings. Your ring will begin white and remain white forever; a desirable quality for a wedding band that you will be wearing for the extent of your lifetime.

Platinum provides a weight and density that makes it more durable than any other jewelry metal. All of our platinum rings are made from 950 platinum, which is the highest quality platinum available in the jewelry industry. This means that your platinum ring will consist of 95% pure platinum and 5% pure ruthenium. Ruthenium is also a member of the platinum group, so it is naturally white just like palladium and platinum. Platinum in its pure form is reasonably soft, but when combined with the alloy ruthenium, platinum is much more malleable and extremely strong. These are just some of the many qualities that make platinum the most precious of all metals.

Platinum vs. White Gold

Platinum rings and white gold wedding bands may look similar in color, but appearance is where the comparison comes to an end. White gold and platinum have a number of their own properties which makes them each unique. Unlike white gold, platinum is a pure metal, making it naturally white and hypoallergenic. White gold is not pure gold. In fact, 14K white gold is only about 58.5% pure gold. White gold is actually yellow gold mixed with white alloys such as nickel or palladium to make it appear white in color. It then needs to be rhodium plated to give it the same high polished white finish that you will find in a platinum or palladium ring. Rhodium plating on a white gold ring will wear away overtime and need to be re-plated. Platinum does not ever need to be rhodium plated to remain white over a lifetime. Platinum is an extremely dense metal making it much heavier than a white gold ring. This also makes platinum about four times stronger than gold and the ideal metal for holding your precious stones securely.

Does Platinum Scratch?

Without a doubt all precious metal rings will ultimately scratch over time, but platinum rings will not change shape or wear away like other precious metals. This is what makes platinum the most dependable and protective metal for safely holding your precious stones. Due to its density, when a platinum ring is scratched, the material is only displaced and never lost. A gold ring on the other hand will lose small flakes of material as it becomes scratched during normal wear. Every platinum wedding band we provide at Wedding Bands Galleria comes complete with our lifetime warranty. If you should ever need your platinum ring resized or even if you would just like your ring to be re-polished it will be entirely covered under our unmatched lifetime warranty. You just send your ring back to us with a copy of your invoice and a note to let us know how we can adjust your ring for you.

Why Is Platinum So Expensive?

Platinum wedding bands are mainly so high-priced because of how rare the metal platinum actually is. In fact, platinum is 30 times more rare than gold! The element platinum is only found in a few places around the world and it is an extremely labor intensive process to mine. The rarity of platinum also means that your platinum wedding ring will hold its value over time and most likely increase in value. Platinum is naturally white and does not fade or tarnish over time like white gold. It is also hypoallergenic, making a platinum ring the ultimate choice for those with skin allergies. Platinum wedding bands are great for everyday wear because they are exceptionally durable. Platinum is considered to be the most luxurious and elegant of all precious metals; the ultimate symbol of enduring love and commitment. All things considered, platinum is more expensive for simply one reason, because it is considered to be the king of all precious metals.
